The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Ghanaians not to underestimate the power of prayer in their everyday activities.
He said God should be allowed, through prayer, to take the lead in the affairs of Ghanaians so that he “opens the way for us.”
The Vice President made the admonishment during the 31st December 2018 watch night service at the Fountain Gate Chapel at Bolgatanga.
Bawumia, delivering an address at the service led by Rev. Eastwood Anaba, said attempts by man to accomplish plans on their own would be in vain unless they seek God’s support.
“I know that in everything that we do, God has to be in the front. Because as the Book of Psalms says, “unless the Lord builds a house, they will labour in vain those that build it. So whatever we do in life, God has to be in front and therefore open the way for us. We are just tools that God will use to accomplish what he wants us to accomplish and so we should never underestimate the power of prayer,” the Vice President said.
Bawumia said the government was grateful for what God has done for the country and prayed for more blessings for the country in 2019.
“We are moving into a new year [and] we have to thank God for what he has done for us and we have to pray to God to give us more blessings in 2019 and so we are here not taking anything for granted.”
“Our battle cry was “the battle is the Lord’s” and it is still the Lord’s. It doesn’t become the battle for the Lord just for the election. It is the battle of the Lord everyday of our lives..and so we are here to give glory to the Lord for what He has done for us in this last year and to pray to the Lord to open the doors for this country,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also made a call for peace and unity among all Ghanaians irrespective of their ethnic and economic background.
“…we are a blessed country. We are of different people and we are of different tribes but God has put us together here for a purpose. Let’s sow peace, love and unity among ourselves. After all, the ten commandments tells us “love thy neighbour as thyself”… there are so many people in this country who are disadvantaged, deprived, disabled or poor. These are the people we need to love the most. After all, that is what Jesus would have done.” he noted.
Meanwhile, Rev. Eastwood Anaba has prophesied that God will turn the ‘captivity’ of Ghana to her former state of prosperity and blessing in 2019.
According to him, the ‘captivity’ that held Ghana from realizing her full prospects in 2018 shall be overcome as 2019 will be a promising year for the country and Ghanaians.
“I am believing God that, from tonight 31st December 2018 that, for every Ghanaian, that God will begin to turn our captivity. That word captivity means to be in exile or a prisoner and when we say, God has turned our captivity, it means God has returned us to our former state of prosperity and blessing”.
“And I believe God that, in our homes, our churches, our businesses and especially for the nation Ghana, continent of Africa and the world globally, that God will turn our captivity. We have gone into emotional exile, intellectual exile, moral exile, financial exile and exile even in our development, but may God turn our captivity including spiritual captivity,” he said.
